The Great Gatsby

For those of you who have been living on the moon Baz Luhrmann’s edition of The Great Gatsby finally hit our big screens - making it one of the most modern films around.

Fascinated by the glamorous costumes that evoke the Roaring Twenties, the decadence of life experienced and lets not forget the resonant heartbreaking brilliance of Fitzgerald's tale itself - that these rows of feeling sometimes reach beyond the insensitively moved... then this is a movie you want to watch.

Note to all the men out there, once your girl watches The Great Gatsby you will be required to qua triple your efforts.. haha :)

Critically acclaimed, the story of Jay Gatsby as The Great Gatsby has not only become required classic literature read for decades, but the story has also been put on film time and time again. This latest version directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo and Juliet) is the most extravagant and creative yet and catches the spirit of the age on film just as Fitzgerald caught it in his writing.

Alexander The Great or Alexander McQueen?

Well, when it comes to ingeniousness both do just as well as one another.

Looking at -or should we say admiring- the collection of dresses on (Lee) Alexander McQueen's founded fashion label's websitewww.alexandermcqueen.co.uk all of us probably have the same thought. WE WANT ONE!

The elegance of his designs and the bespoken tailoring draws through all of the garments and won the company's founder and creative director Lee Alexander McQueen the “Designer of the Year Award” in 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2003.

He started of simple and completed an apprenticeship with Salvie Row tailors Anderson & Sheppard. Critics say that it was his early career which taught him the art of tailoring.

How sympathetic to see how a simple man from a simple background did so well for himself. His move to Italy and the position at Romeo Gigli obviously helped him developing his creativity and designs even further.

In saying that no one is born a master but the feel and passion for perfection he must have had in his blood.

McQueen died too early, but the spirit and fashion sense he invented is still carried on by his fashion label Alexander McQueen to this day.

He might not be the creative director anymore, but he has set a standard for fashion that has put elegance in a new perspective.

MOTHERS DAY

Let's be honest... The interesting relationships between mothers and their children, which most of us are spoilt to enjoy, have its ups and downs. Like in any relationship we love, we disagree, we joke around and we cry.

We certainly disagree with fashion styles - who has not ever had to deal with Mum's unappreciated comments about outfits, hairstyles and accessories.

All you would like to throw into their face is that fashion senses and styles have changed, what might have not been accepted when they were young is now considered trés chic.

Yes, we disagree - but those little disagreements are nothing compared to what mums give us.

Anna Jarvis campaigned to make Mother's Day a recognised holiday in the United States of America and was successful doing so in 1914. She, as most of us, has had a passionate love for her mother.

Anna Jarvis cherished her mother. Do you, too?
What makes your mum extra special?
Or if you're a mum yourself, what is the best mother's day gift you have ever received?
